And the Winning Breakout Is….

Last week, you voted for the breakout you most wanted to see return to The Building Champions Experience.  And now…we have a winner!

The votes went to “The Ultimate Fighter – Developing Effective Conflict Resolution.”

Communication is the key to maintaining successful relationships with your team, clients, business partners, friends and family.  The key to communication, however, is having the ability to effectively resolve conflict.  This session with Coach James Allison will address: your individual conflict style and how to identify the styles of those around you, how conflict arises, why conflict is the key to depth in your relationships, and how to successfully work with your conflict resolution style and the styles of others.

This powerful breakout session will be back for BCE this year, along with some great new sessions from our coaches.  Keep checking this blog for announcements coming soon about all of the breakouts we’ll be featuring this year!

Bringing the Best Breakouts Back

This year marks the 5th anniversary for The Experience. Every year we have selected breakout sessions that have provided attendees with practical tools and knowledge to improve their business.

At this year’s Experience, we want your help in picking breakouts from past events that should be brought back. Below are six of the highest-rated breakout sessions as voted by our attendees. Note: See below for full descriptions for each session.

We want to hear from you.

Day Three: Michael Hyatt on Contributing Outside the Office

The third day of The Experience opened with a presentation from Michael Hyatt, Chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishers.  Mike has been a long-time client of Building Champions, and he is passionate about the power of Life Planning.

Imagine having a cardiologist tell you the following:  “What you’re doing is not sustainable.  If you don’t make some changes, you will be back here with a heart attack.”

There was a time when Mike had let his life get out of balance.  We often tell ourselves that our situation is temporary.  That if we keep up this pace for a while, things will get better.  Could it be there is someone or something trying to get your attention to tell you to be more intentional about your life?

Day Two: Breakouts and Reflection Time

The second day of The Experience continued with two rounds of breakout sessions designed to give our attendees greater insight in the areas of business where they most need to focus.

A number of our attendees voiced some regret that they could only attend one session during each round.  Since I am also limited to the same laws of time and space, I was also only able to observe two sessions, but there was a tremendous amount of value I took from each.

If you were in attendance at a different session, we’d love to hear your thoughts and key takeaways in the comments below!

Day Two: Patrick Lencioni Gets “Naked”

Are you ready to get really vulnerable?

Our special guest speaker Patrick Lencioni opened the second day of the Experience with an engaging lesson on the power of vulnerability, and how it can lead you to make a greater difference at work.  As Pat said,

“Most people I know are looking forward to the day they can retire and go do something really worthwhile.  When it comes to making a difference and a contribution in the world, the role we play as leaders and service providers has a more profound impact on others than anything else you could do….When it comes to making a contribution, those things you do at work – managing and developing people, serving customers – are changing people’s lives.”

So how do you make a greater difference in your work every day?

Opening Session: You’ve Got More to Give

It was with great excitement that we kicked off this year’s Experience last night with a welcome from our resident emcee, Bill Hart.  Coach Bill walked everyone through the contents of their binder, which contains the materials for the week.  As Bill pointed out, with all our impressive technology, it’s funny how we still come back to the classic 8.5 x 11 hole punched sheets in a 3-ring binder.

Then Kristen Kelly, Barry Engelman, and Steve Scanlon took the stage to share some best practices for making the most of the Experience.  Their advice could apply to just about any event you attend… Read more
